
Umaid bhawan palace located at Jodhpur in Rajasthan is the largest residence in the world. Umaid bhawan palace was also called Chittar Palace during its construction, due to its location on Chittar hill. This palace was made by Maharaja Udai Singh ji in 1929. The present owner of the palace is GajSingh. The palace is now divided into three parts. One part is used as a hotel, the second part is used as a residence and the third part is used as a small museum which displays pictures, arms, swords and many other antique things. Construction of Umaid bhawan employed more than 5000 man for fifteen years. This building does not use any cement or mortar to bind the stones, all its pieces are carved stones joined together by using a technique of carved interlocking of positive and negative pieces. Designed by renowned Edwardian architect Henry Lenchester, the palace is a blend of eastern and western architectural influences .The project was to cost Rs.94, 51,565.
