Junagarh fort, Bikaner

Imposing and enchanting, the Junagarh fort in Bikaner overwhelms with its historic charm and monumental splendor. This fort was built in 5th century by one of the most able and trusted generals of Akbar, Raja Rai Singh. The 986 meter stone wall that encloses the magnificent Junagarh Fort has 37 bastions that give it a formidable yet impressive character. The deep moat that encircles the fort made it impossible for the enemies to attack the fort. In fact the fort remained unconquered during the course of its history. The 37 bastions guard the fort and only two gates are provide to get entrance in the fort. The Suraj Pol or the sun gate is the main entrance of the fort. The Junagarh fort has defied all the attacks except for the brief stint by Kamran who captured the fort, but was unable to retain its victory more than 24 hours. The fort encompasses many places like Chandra mahal, phool mahal. Both are decorated with mirrors. And the karan mahal. The karan mahal was built in remembrance of great victory over Aurangzeb.
