Overview

Shekhawati is one of the richest areas, interm of art and crafts, of rajasthan.Creating beautiful images with vibrant colors is a way of life of the artists of the Shekhawati area.
This is a semi desert area in north Rajasthan and it is situated entirely in the triangle between Delhi-Bikaner-Jaipur. Shekhawati is a area and not just a town or fort; it takes its name after its ruler Rao Shekha. Shekhawati means the
garden of Shekha.
The towns of Shekhawati are famous for their amazing painted havelis. Such as the appeal of the havelis that this area is dubbed as
"open art gallery of Rajasthan". The plethora of painted Havelis in rich artistic tradition makes it admirable and fascinating. The Shekhawati landscape is dotted with so many havelis that tracking them is something like a treasure hunt.

Nawalgarh

Founded in the 18th Century by Nawal Singh. A huge fort with colourful bazaar and numerous havelis with elegent architecture makes it an interesting destination for a 1day / 1 night stay. There are a few extended havelis like Aath Haveli, Anandilal Poddar Haveli, Hodh Raj Patodia Haveli etc.

Bala Kila

The fort was founded in 1737. Only one room in the southeastern sections of the fort contain beautiful mirror work and paintings of scenes of old Jaipur and Nawalgarh

Dundlod

This Thikana (destination) is in the heart of Shekhawati area. The fort is a combination of the Rajput and Mughal Art and architecture the Diwan- e- khas (Hall of private Audience) has color glass windows, find antiques and an impressive library.

Mukungarh

It is Built around a temple square, a few km from Navalgarh, Mukungarh has a elegent fort, which is now converted, into a resort hotel with all modern lixury. There is famous havelis of Kanoria and Ganriwal.

Mandawa

This was founded by Thakur Nawal Singh, a descendant of Rao Shekha. Now it is a center of the handicrafts and furniture industry. The Mandawa Family's collection includes ceremonial costumes and precious arms with handles of jade. The havelis of Chokhani, Saraf, Goenka and Ladia must be visited.

Havelis

Hanuman Prasad Goenka Haveli has a representation of Indra on an elephant and Shiva on His Nandi Bull. Goenka Double Haveli with two gates. The haveli has majestic façade of elephants and horses. Murmuria Haveli has train with a crowded level crossing. The haveli also has an effective picture of Nehru on a horseback holding the national flag. The Jhunjhunwala Haveli has effective gold leaf painted room. The Mohan Lal Saraf Haveli has an effective picture of a Maharaja stroking his moustaches. The Binsidhar Newatia Haveli, Lakshminarayan Ladia Haveli, Gulab Rai Ladia Haveli and Chokhani Double Haveli are some other havelis in the area.

Fatehpur

The Muslim Nawabs established Fatehpur in 1451 .The opulence of the local merchants is so evident from the richly painted havelis of Poddars, Choudhuri and the Ganeriwalas families.

Jhunjhunu

It is the biggest town in the Shekhawati area and are the district administrative head quarters for the area. The Khemkhani Nawabs founded the town in the 15th century.

Khetri Mahal

Bhopal Singh is the founder of Khetri. It is Located behind a series of lanes is Khetri Mahal. It is one of the finest examples of Shekhawati art and architecture.

Pilani

Pilani is famous for being the hometown of the premier business and industrial family of the Birlas. This town is also famous for its The Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani is an all-India Institute for higher education. Its engineering college is reputed to be the top ten colleges in India. Late Mr G.D. Birla - an famous industrialist and an associate of Mahatma Gandhi, founded the Institute. Other places of interest are The BITS Museum, Shiva Ganga, Saraswati temple and the Pachwati

Baggar

It is a small town known for the Piramal Haveli, which accepts guests in its eight room on prior booking.

Salasar Balaji

The great famous temple of SANKATMOCHAN HANUMAN is situated in the Churu district. It is situated in the small town called Salasar.

Khatu Shyam ji

It is a famous temple of lord Krishna.It is in sikar district.

Shakambhari Shri

It is the famous temple of Maa Bhagwati. Shakambhari, also known as Sakaraj Mata, is situated in Sikar district of Shekhawati area. There is a famous river SHANKAR GANGA flows near the temple in rainy season
